Deborah told me:
My favourite tree is the Major Oak in Sherwood Forest. It is hollow and is supposed to be the place where Robin Hood hid from the Sheriff of Nottingham. It is much loved by the local population and is supported by a series of heavy industrial wires staked into the ground – much like a trapeze rig. Seeing a tree like this is lovely, but also a little sad. It has the appearance of an imprisoned tree or an old man on a life support machine. Perhaps it is time for the tree to return to the earth and nourish new trees?
